Investing in Education
Twelve foundations have committed $500 million in funds to leverage the U.S. Department of Education's $650 million "Investing in Innovation" (i3) Fund. Among many things, the foundations' investments will go toward training for teachers and administrators, improvements to STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) education programs, and support for low-performing schools and alternative school designs. In addition, the foundations are launching the "Foundation Registry i3," an application platform intended to simplify the process of applying for private funding.
